About Foundation Learning

This programme aims to help those young people who are not yet ready or able to directly enter Apprenticeship programmes, further education or employment.

Foundation Learning leads to a work based learning course and nationally recognised qualifications designed for young people aged 16-19 who prefer to do learning in a practical way and is a great starting point if learners would like to gain some practical experience, try some careers and improve their qualifications.

With Foundation Learning, students can experience what a working environment is like and what’s involved, get practical hands on training to learn new skills, and get the qualifications employers want. Courses include:

  • Construction
  • Sports
  • Horticulture
  • Catering & Hospitality
  • Glazing
  • Football coaching

Students will receive:

  • Help with travel expenses
  • Bursary Allowance scheme (From Sept 2011, conditions apply)
  • Free advice and support from our fully qualified Tutors

Foundation Learning is all about young people, it focuses on their needs and gives them the training, education and skills they need to enter the world of work. There are a wide range of activities and awards which can include:

  • First aid training
  • Nationally recognised qualifications, including BTEC at Award, Certificate and Diploma Levels.
  • Health and Safety Qualifications
  • Food Hygiene and preparation Certificates
  • CV Building and Presentation skills
  • CSCS Card (Construction skills certification scheme)

The learning environment is friendly supportive and informal. Young people will gain motivation and confidence. The Foundation Learning Curriculum comprises of 3 strands:

  • Functional Skills in Mathematics, English and ICT
  • Vocational Skills
  • Personal, Social and Employability Skills

Many of the most valuable learning outcomes can be gained through learning experiences in non formal educational settings.
