Glazing / Maintenance Level 3

WHO IS THIS QUALIFICATION FOR?window glazers


This qualification is aimed at those who work as glaziers, installing glass into frames (eg windows, doors), and those who work to maintain glazing installations (usually windows and doors). The standards cover the most important aspects of the job.

This qualification is at Level 3, and should be taken by those who are experienced, capable of dealing with a wide range of problems, including working with glazing installations that have complex requirements.

Candidates will often take a supervisory role, particularly in relation to less-experienced workers. They will also work closely with customers and have well-developed customer service skills.

A further qualification for glazing at Level 2 is also available. In addition, there are qualifications for those who install replacement glass supporting frames and units. Candidates for this qualification should be assessed in the context of glazing installation or maintenance of glazing systems.

WHAT IS REQUIRED FROM CANDIDATES?

Candidates should achieve all the 4 mandatory units, plus a total of 4 optional units, which must include either one or both of Unit 5 or Unit 6. The optional unit chosen will determine:

  • NVQ - The qualification endorsement title
  • SVQ - The qualification title


Candidates should provide evidence of competence in all the statements listed for each element. Guidance on the evidence that will be acceptable is contained in the introduction to each unit.

Mandatory units (all 4 units must be taken)
Unit 1
- Promote and maintain health and safety in the glazing environment
Unit 2 - Lead the glazing work at glazing sites
Unit 3 - Resolve technical problems at glazing sites
Unit 4 - Install glass into glazing systems

 

Optional units (total 4 units to be taken, which must include one or both of Unit 5 (Installation) or Unit 6 (Maintenance)

Unit 5 - Cut glass for glazing
Unit 6 - Maintain glazing systems
Unit 7 - Cut glass for complex shapes
Unit 8 - Apply window film to glass
Unit 9 - Glaze fire resistant glazing installations
Unit 10 - Glaze glass interiors
Unit 11 - Glaze glass balustrades
Unit 12 - Glaze glass curtain wall systems
Unit 13 - Glaze glass overhead installations
Unit 14 - Glaze glass shop-fronts
Unit 15 - Glaze glass stair and floor installations
Unit 16 - Glaze structural glass installations
Unit 17 - Glaze toughened glass assemblies
Unit 18 - Glaze security glazing installations
