TVC Learners, Luke and Kelly hit the jungle on Operation Raleigh

Wallasey foundation learning students, Luke Smalley and Kelly Robinson have started jungle training in Costa Rica at the beginning of their Operation Raleigh International expedition.

Both students from The Vocational College in Seacombe joined the adventure in South America after raising £1,400.00 each to fund the ten week expedition.

Joanne Madden, their Raleigh Key Worker at the college said, “Both Kelly and Luke worked hard throughout the run-up to the expedition.  They showed high levels of motivation to ensure that they completed the fund raising and personal development goals they had set for themselves.  It was a long and hard process to raise the all the money they needed for the expedition but Luke and Kelly achieved this and are now working well with other young people in Costa Rica”.

Raleigh is a charity with 26 years history in providing adventurous and challenging expeditions for young people from all backgrounds and nationalities.  Projects in Costa Rica and Nicaragua enable young people to experience and help protect pristine natural environments, and discover life within the ethnic communities.

Luke joins the Turrimacho trek and will be working with local people carrying out repairs to the trail and maintaining facilities.

Kelly is off to Apantes, Miraflor in Nicaragua. The local people have few resources and lack access to basic services such as health and education. Kelly’s team will be building a preschool in the community where currently there are no facilities for very young children to learn.
